8.1 Inspections

8.1.1 Once QR Codes are on street, it is recommended that they are inspected on a regular basis, like any other information or asset.

8.1.2 This inspection should include testing to ensure the code remains viable for cameras to read, and the link to the online content continues to work.

8.1.3 Inspection should include checking for any over-stickering and tampering.

8.2 Testing

8.2.1 Each QR Code should be tested before posting on street to ensure its successful operation. Where a design is being developed, it is recommended that the testing includes:

  • check with real world dirt accumulation;
  • low-end smartphone cameras;
  • users with reduced and no vision;
  • screen reader users; and
  • different lighting conditions – a minimum of bright sunny day, early morning / late evening with dull and low angle sunlight, nighttime with streetlights and no street lighting.
